Gotta root your device to tether like a pro.

Tether your Droid with a wee bit of work

    Motorola Droid
Let's face it: A smartphone doesn't really reach manhood until it can achieve the almighty tether -- we'll ignore for the moment whether it's Kosher with your carrier. And you can now tether with the Motorola Droid.
Sure, you previously could use PDANet. And while that's fine for many, it's just not the same. It you want true tethering, however, you're going to have to work for it. A new firmware isn't a small matter, but the instructions are now available, thanks to DroidForums user webacoustics. We'll warn you in advance: Read the instructions. Then read them again. And if you're not sure what you're doing, don't do it. But otherwise, happy tethering!

Nexus One specs leaked, limited launch date revealed?
Google’s semi-secret Nexus One handset has been more or less exhaustively leaked at this point, with very few cats left to let out of the bag. The only two major points left were the tech specs and the release date – and now, even those have made their way out.

Unreal Engine 3 for iPhone and possibly Android @ CES

Graphics and gameplay video show great potential for gaming on the go.

Video: Epic demos Unreal Engine 3 running on the iPhone

The iPhone is already touted for its gaming prowess almost endlessly, but it looks like things are about to take a pretty big leap forward. Epic Games has been crackin’ away at an iPhone port of their Unreal Engine 3 — the engine that powers such jaw-droppingly beautiful games as BioShock, Mirror’s Edge, Gears of War 2, and a bunch of others — and they’re now far enough along that they’re looking to show it off.

Swype Keyboard takes text input to another level.

Why poke when you can Swype?

Swype keyboard coming to Android in 2010

Swype keyboard coming to Android in 2010
TechCrunch is reporting that Swype will be coming to Android in 2010. Swype was created by the inventor of the T9 predictive typing system used on most feature phones today (but sorely missing from the default Android soft keyboard).
This is not the first time we have seen a company try to offer an alternative keyboard where you draw words. Shapewriter is another virtual keyboard that offers a similar input method and it was an epic failure based on my testing. The problem with drawing words on a small virtual keyboard is that your finger never leaves the screen till you finish a word. This makes it difficult to see where the letters are placed because your finger is always blocking the view.
Swype seems to think their input method is faster than traditional virtual keyboards. We will reserve final judgment till their app hits the market.
